I love art. I know that's a massively vague statement but I absolutely and utterly love art and all that art is. Fine arts, theatre, music, literature - I love it all. I’ve loved art since I was a child and I studied one year of fine arts in university before deciding that it wasn’t for me career-wise.
What’s the difference between art and design? My interpretation is that basically art is something creative you do for yourself and design is being creative for someone else. As much as I enjoy being a designer and working to briefs, I believe I am also an artist at heart.
One of my biggest goals this year is to add more art into my design work. I want to include some of my own paintings, drawings and patterns into my designs and create something that is a mixture of art and design. A trend that I’ve seen come up and really love is that of abstract shards. Have you seen the hand painted cakes of late? They are visually stunning!
Isn't it amazing how creative some people are? Who would've thought replicating brush strokes onto a cake would turn out so exquisite and beautiful!
I decided to do some more research into abstract shards and created a mood board for my own play at abstract art.
What do you guys think? Are you loving this trend as much as I am?
Get ready to see a lot of blue-based purple trending in 2018. Pantone has released their colour of the year as 18-3838 Ultra Violet. According to the Pantone website this colour is "A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future."
Purple is such a unique colour that it will definitely add individuality to designed items. Last year's colour Greenery added some much needed freshness and nature into our lives and I believe that the bold Ultra Violet will allow us the freedom to be more expressive creatively.
In celebration of Ultra Violet I have designed three invitation suites based on it. These are available for order and customising if you'd like to use Ultra Violet as your wedding theme!
But first, here's my purple inspired mood board (you all know my love of them!):
Florals! I combined my love of florals and geometry to get this design. This suite can have a floral pattern printed on the back of the invitations.
Minimal and crisp for the white space lovers out there!
Mixing it up a bit with contemporary and abstract patterns.
If you're interested in any of these designs or have any enquiries, please feel free to drop me a message!
I hope Ultra Violet adds some creativity and inspiration to your life this year!
Although I am sad to see winter go, I am more than happy to welcome the freshness of Spring!
Pantone have released their Top 10 colours for Spring 2017 and I am loving each one of them!
I love the brights Primrose Yellow, Flame and Pink Yarrow which so vividly remind me of fresh flowers, sunshine and long days.
The three blues Niagara, Island Paradise and Lapis Blue make an absolute stunning collection. I love, love, love! These hues have a calming and peaceful effect and are reminiscent of days spent relaxing by the pristine clear oceans in Koh Samui.
If you're having a wedding in Spring, there are hundreds of beautiful colour combinations you can achieve from this selection!
I hope this colour palette offers you some inspiration and Spring cheer!
