The theme of Monique and Ken's wedding invitation was Retro with a fun carnival vibe. The wedding ceremony was held in the garden of a small delightful winery in the Upper Swan Valley of Perth with the reception at the adjoining restaurant. It was held in the warm Springtime where everything was in bloom and skies were clear and blue.
The colour theme of the wedding was pale blue and peach, reminiscent of American advertising in the 1950s. I designed the invitation with mostly typography using different retro-ish typefaces. The only illustrations I placed on the invitation was a banner and some love simple hearts. The biggest challenge for me was to make the invitation look fun and casual yet still retaining sophistication. Whilst most of the typefaces I used were quite bold and strong, the colour scheme softened the design quite a bit.
For the extra pages of 'Information' and 'Wedding Registry' I placed a small line drawing of a compass and gift box respectively to add some balance to the text-heavy design.
The invitation was finished by being enclosed in a kraft brown pocket-fold. The bride tied a piece of ivory lace around the closed pocket-fold and attached a square tag that I printed for her onto the front. Overall it was a very lovely and beautiful idea.
